General Fire Awareness

This general fire awareness course is suitable for all employees of the Commercial and Industrial sector, Local Government, Leisure Industry etc.

Fire and its consequences pose a significant risk to any business or organisation. Those businesses who are sole traders or who operate from single sites are especially vulnerable, the disruption and loss to the business can be such that it affects their ability to supply/manufacture/service their customers requirements. Many businesses fail to reopen following a fire.

The principle objectives of the course are to ensure that employees:

  • Understand the need for fire prevention measures
  • Can identify fire safety features
  • Know the appropriate action to take when a fire breaks out
  • Know the procedure to be adopted if discovering a fire or on hearing the fire alarm

Employees can therefore help to ensure the future of the business or organisation and their own personal safety. The course additionally satisfies the legislative requirements placed upon employers regarding staff fire training.

The course duration is normally 1hr, delivered at your premises or other suitable location as directed, the course content covers the basic elements of general fire awareness.

Content:

  1. Understanding fire, (fire triangle, fire spread)
  2. Action to be taken when hearing the fire alarm
  3. Action to be taken if discovering a fire
  4. Fire safety features within the workplace
  5. Common causes of fire
  6. Escape routes
  7. Hazard spotting
  8. Arson prevention

It is recommended that all employees receive fire awareness training on an annual basis, however, in smaller establishments with a low turnover of staff a fire risk assessment may conclude that training for staff in the above subjects need only be provided on a bi-annual basis, and conversely in premises with a high fire risk or a high turnover of staff, it may identify that training is required to be provided on a more frequent basis.
