The aim of the course is to provide carers with the relevant knowledge of fire which will help them to improve both the safety of the client and themselves.
The input covers the following:

- Fire statistics for domestic dwellings
- Combustion theory and fire spread
- Video - to demonstrate rapid fire spread
- Basic fire prevention in domestic dwellings

- Advice to give clients
- Role of the Fire Brigade (advice and assistance available)
- Ensuring the safety of the carer in their own home (Fire Plan exercise)
The above input can be extended to include an introduction to the use of fire extinguishers. If this option is selected carers are given the opportunity to use fire extinguishers and a fire blanket to extinguish fires in our fire training simulators. (The course duration would be extended to 2 Hours if the Introduction to Fire Extinguishers option is selected).
